Friends

Many people pass through our lives
Some we notice as people we know
Others we just see once when paths are crossed
Many people you wouldn’t consider a best friend
Some are your best friends forever
A lot of people touch our hearts in one way or another
Sometimes you don’t realize that until it’s too late
On one particular day I had a friend that I served breakfast to every morning
She smiled and said, "Oh there’s my best friend!"
I looked around, and at once realized she meant me
I smiled and had a short conversation with her
She and I would always talk about many things
We had so many differences in our lives
She has lived longer and been through so many more things
It is interesting to talk to someone and really get to know what they have gone through in their lifetime
It doesn’t matter if you are older or younger
What matters is how you treat each other and enjoy each others company
Many people who are in nursing homes need a friend
Whether it be a friend to talk to or just sit next to they need a friend
Instead of thinking of them as "residents", think of them as your friend
People would be surprised at what they find out
And how different things were in different decades
I believe where I work, I can make a new friend every day
If I take one minute to sit down and just say hello
A best friend doesn’t have to be someone you "hang out" with
A best friend is there for you and you are there for your best friend
So stop for just one minute and say hello to someone
You never know how fascinating their lives have been
And maybe how fascinating your life is to them
